I got a call from a friend and guide that he was having boat trouble and needed someone to finish out the day with his customers. I meet them at the dock about 930 and we headed to the flat looking for reds, the overcast clouds we had problems finding sand pockets and water was too low to drift, so we tried chunking cut bait. After several stops and not getting keeper fish, we pulled up and headed to another area for some trout action hopefully. First drift we picked up a nice trout and 2nd drift just as we located the fish, here come a storm off the gulf, the guys decided not to get wet and we moved out and away from the storm. We made a few more stops before they called it a day and we headed home with a few nice trout. Thanks guys for a few hours on the water, enjoyed the time and look forward to doing it again.

What a day !
I had 3 guys that I grew up with and haven't seen in 30 + years come down Sunday night and fish with me yesterday. We started out for redfish and had the first one by the time the sun came up. We got our limit by 9:30 and moved up north where we had been catching trout. We did manage to find a few small fish and some nice reds, even though we didn't need them. Catching up on who and what had happened to everyone in the last 30 years was fun. It was great fun to see them battle the reds, especially since they were used to catching bass.
Thanks guys for a great day and can't wait till we do it again.

I had the pleasure of spending the day with 3 guys from San Antonio today. We started out fishing backwards for this time of year, usually we trout fish early and then hunt redfish later in the day. We started out looking for redfiish early, first stop, when the sun came up we were in about 1' of water, as it got lighter we moved down to some sand holes and started catching some nice reds. By 10:30 we had 6 of our limit and the bite had just about stopped, the guys wanted to throw some plastics, so we headed north to the flats and tried our luck there.
It turned out good, as we caught the other 3 reds and some nice speckled trout. Guys thanks for a great day on the water and look forward to having many more.

I had the pleasure of fishing a dad, son, and grandson today. We had a tough day on the water, the grandson (who was 8), and a good fisherman caught the keeper speckled trout of the day for us. We had plenty of wind to contend with, but started out drifting the flats where I had caught fish the day before. We made several long drifts in good looking water, but couldn't get a bite going. Then we moved to a different area that had been producing redfish and caught lots of rat reds, but just couldn't break 19 3/4 ''. I sure did want to see them catch some keeper reds.
But we had a good time and look forward to another day on the water with them.

An old friend of my wifes and her daughter came down for a few days, and we took the daughter fishing.
We fished about 1 hour and she caught 3 nice speckled trout with the bait I had left from the day before. She wants to be a marine biologist, so we took a boat ride down the channel and found dolphins working bait and watched them for several minutes. As you can tell from the smile on her face she was proud of her catch. Thanks and look forward to seeing you catch a big redfish next time.

I had the pleasure of fishing with a friend and his friend, both out of the Fort Worth area. A little back ground on this guy, first trip with him and a guest we started out trout fishing and we didn't get a fast bite, but it was a steady bite. By 9 we were limited out and started looking for redfish, a couple of stops and we got our limits and we were at the dock by 11:30. That is really hard to top. Next trip not quite as good, but a good mess of fish. This time it was hard core fishing. We worked our butts off for 7 nice speckled trout, but had a great time. We managed a few rat redfish and quite a few small (dink) trout, but it wasn't as easy as he is used to. Thanks guys for a great day on the water and look forward to doing it again.

Well not all days go as planned. I was fishing a couple from the Hill Country, the wind was higher overnight making it tough to fish the outsides where I had been on fish the last few days. But we worked shelter areas, but just could not get a bite going. Wind was wrong but we tried to drift the edges of the flats, but couldn't slow down enough to get a bite going. Worked some structure in the sheltered area of the bay and found some big skip jacks, first time she had caught those and she had fun. Picked up several large gafftops drifting the edges of channels. So we went back to the flats and worked the area that had produced redfish yesterday, first stop nothing. Second stop, picked up a nice red and had a couple of fish drop the bait on us. Made a few more stops and nothing. The wind switched directions enough so we went back to the flats we tried to work earlier and picked up some nice trout. We didn't fill the box, but had a great time and they caught some nice fish.
Thanks for a great day on the water and look forward to doing it again.

I had the pleasure of spending the day with a couple from Taylor, and we had a great time. We started in the flats drifting for trout, but couldn't see the pot holes due to the overcast clouds. Made a long drift and only picked up 1 nice trout. The wind layed a little so we moved down the way and worked the outside of some islands, no luck. Then we moved to some reefs and started picking up a few speckled trout and sand trout, but we were having to cull lots of little trout to find the keepers. After several stops, we decided to move back to the flats and try our luck at redfish. Couple of stops and we picked up 4 nice reds and they decided it was time to head home.
Thanks folks for a great day and look forward to having you back again.

What a great day on the water. I had 3 guys from Gatesville Texas area today. We left just before sunrise and found a quite place with out lots of traffic to start fishing. Just a few minutes and one of the guys hooks up a rat redfish. Then a few small trout, and 1 keeper trout. Things are looking good, but here comes the birds (sea gulls)! After loosing to many baits to them, it is time to move on. We head to some deep water reefs, first stop gets us about 10 nice fish, then the bite stops, 2 nd stop nothing. Next stop about 10 more then it stops. Next stop some more, I thought we lacked 6 fish; we ran out of bait and went to gulps. One of the guys that had a tough time catching on live bait, picked up 5 more keepers for us. We had to wade through quite a few small speckled trout to get ours, but not to many.
Thanks guys for a great day on the water and look forward to having you back again.

I got the best job in the world. Fished a regular customer and her son from Austin area, his buddy, and her mother in law today. Boys are in mid teens, we started to some deep water areas, but was too rough for grandmother, so turned around and worked some riff-raff, that I haven't fished in a while. Not 5 minutes grandmother hooks up and brings in a nice flounder. After a few minutes and no more bites, we pull up and head to where we started as the wind was dying down. Next stop picked up a few speckled trout, big gafftops, and some sand trout, the wind switched and the bite died. Moved several more times and couldn't get a bite going. So we headed back to the flats, started drifting; grandson said to grandmother " you need to catch a red". The girls are ahead of the guys in fish at that time, the boys need to get it in gear. We picked up a few nice trout on the first drift. Went back and staredt another drift, grandmother hooks up and lands the biggest fish of day a 23'' speckled trout. Daughter-in-law get a 22'' trout, and the boys get a couple of keepers. I jacked up the motor to drift across a real shallow bar to work some holes past it, the second hole after the shallow bar, grandmother hooks up and lands a nice redfish.
Her first Grand Slam.
Thanks folks for a great day and look forward to several more next month.
