I got to spend the last 3 mornings duck hunting, first 2 days with a client from San Antonio and last day with a friend from Corpus Christi. The first morning started out cold and this morning was in low 50's, but we have had a lack of wind. Thousands of ducks rafted all around us but nothing to get them up. We had some shots, but haven't been burning up shells like I had hoped. Water is lower than usual and super clear, spent an hour chasing (wade fishing) reds today, it all started with a duck down way out, so I thought I might as well fish since I had a long hike, but couldn't get them to take anything. But it was fun seeing them any way.
Duck season ends Jan 29.
For all you bow hunters we now offer bow fishing for rays, sheep head, and black drum to keep your skills up for next deer or turkey season.

Just had to get on the water today, but things kept getting in the way. Finally after 3 p.m. got out and went looking for drum, sheep head, and some rays to shoot with a bow.
The water is gone and headed up shallow, but could only find redfish. After about an hour the sun got low enough that I couldn't see to shoot so grabbed a rod and gold spoon and picked up a nice 27'' red and missed a couple more before heading home. Jumped a nice school of fish just couldn't tell if they were reds or drum, probably drum since they wouldn't eat spoons or top waters. Wind is going to be high for a few days, but will be duck hunting anyway.

Sorry about not keeping you all updated. Fishing was a little tough Christmas through New Years, but has been good the last week. Tides have been low and weather a lot warmer. Reds are hitting gold spoon on falling tides, those who have been wading are hitting home runs. Black drum have been good as well. Trout are off and on, but a few good boxes are coming in on plastics and waders working the 2-4' waters.
Fishing is looking good for the winter and spring. Duck season goes to the 29th of January, so there is still time to get a cast and blast in.
We wll be offering bow fishing trips this winter, the water is clear and lots of sheep head, drum, and sting rays to keep you busy.
Fishing seminars start at The Dunes Condo in Port Aransas at 7 pm on Jan 10, 24, Feb. 7, 28, March 13, 27 . Bring a friend and let's talk fishing.
We will have a booth at the Texas Coastal Bend Travel Fair in Aransas Pass Civic Center Jan 25, 10 am to 4 pm. Free admission. Come by and see us.

What a day on the water!
The morning started out cloudy, overcast, large rain drops falling, and windy in the mid 50's, most people would just go back to bed, not these 2 die hard fisherman from San Antonio. We got lucky and the first stop started catching (rat) reds from 10 - 19 1/4'' and then one of them hooked up a nice fish, after about 15 or 20 minute fight we landed a beautiful 39'' + black drum. He and his dad had fished with me before in the spring and caught bull drum in deep water and boy was he surprised to find one back in the flats, I was too. The rains came and went all day but the gauge only showed 1/10 of a inch at my house. But we managed to get a nice box of fish. They caught black drum, red fish, sheephead, flounder, and whiting today. Guys thanks for a great day on the water and look forward to having you back again. Please thank your wife for getting you this trip as a gift.

I thought yesterday was bad, but I fished two young ladies today in high north winds, the tide was falling out quickly after the northern came holwing in yesterday and kept blowing all day. We worked some drops, that usually hold fish in this kind of weather, but could only manage several whitings, undersized reds, and 1 keeper drum. Despite the cold temperature these young ladies worked hard for what we caught and we had a great time. Looking forward to having you back again and having a more productive day. Thanks ladies.

All things must change, and the weather did it today. We went from clear and calm, to overcast and high wind warning, so trout fishing was out. We started working the flats where we saw lots of reds yesterday, but they had lock jaw, hoped they had gotten over that. But with the cloud cover we couldn't see sand pockets or see fish to cast to. The group of guys, 2 from Chicago area, 1 from California, and 1 from Houston area, were down for a family get together and we had a great time. After working several areas, we finally found a few hungry fish, most were undersized reds, but we managed a flounder, a red, and a nice black drum. Guys thank for working so hard and I enjoyed the day and look forward to having you back again.

We got lucky today, the day dawned clear and calm for a couple of hours, I had a guy and his 2 son's (4 &7 year old) and his brother in law. Both guys had fished with me a couple of years ago and we had a great day, for the boys sake I has hoping for a repeat of that, it turned out even better. We headed back where we had fished the day before and luck was on our side. The boys did great catching fish as well as the dads. About 10 o'clock the wind came up and the bite shut off, so we headed to calmer waters. We found lots of reds but couldn't get them to bite. The oldest boy hooked up a big red and did a great job for several minutes with it, we got it close enough to the boat to see it before it spit the hook, so I sure did want him to get another red, but it wasn't in the cards. Folks let me tell you the two little ones were troopers today they stayed after it and had a great time, so don't wait to long to take your kids or grandkids out on the water. I have never had a 4 year old fish and entertain himself like this young man, it was a pleasure having him on board. Thanks guys for a great day on the water and look forward to having you back again.

While most of you were preparing to eat turkey and watch football, I had the pleasure of spending some time with the youngest son, Josh and a friend of mine from Castroville. We headed out and ran into a thick fog bank, several times the visibility was less than 100 feet, boy that makes me nervous. But we managed to find our way to the fish. By 10:20 a.m. we were pulling up the anchor and headed home with our limits of trout, a nice sheephead, and some sand trout. What a great way to spend the morning !
Thanks Josh and Junior for a great morning.

We did a cast and blast today, the couple I had have fished with me before, last trip we loaded up and both got over sized reds. That was her first trip and she couldn't have been happier. This trip didn't go as well, but we still had a great day. About 300 - 400 yards from the hunting spot the alarm goes off on the motor, so I bail out and drag the boat, and them, to the place we were going to hunt, Yesterday was overcast and cloudy, the same forecast for today. We get decoys out and the blind set up just before shooting time and the day dawned clear, not a cloud in site. For all you duck and goose hunters, we call it a blue bird day, most of the time on a day like this the birds come up and fly high and higher. Being a Monday there was very little shooting anywhere and the birds weren't flying. We did get a few shots at some, but not like I had hoped for. About 9 or so we decide to give up and go fishing. I am in the water tying down the blind and customers are standing up in the boat putting up their guns as a red head hen comes in and lands in the decoys about 15 yards from us and just looks at us. She was supper that night. We get loaded up and moved to start fishing. We found some bait and worked flats, and drop offs to no avail. Moved again and this time I found some reds, but could not get them to bite. The wife was having trouble with her boots, so I opted to load up this boat and get the Haynie to make it easier on her. Well the wind was blowing 25 +, but we worked some areas that had produced some nice trout this week but only managed one undersized trout. We finally called it a day and headed home, enjoyed the day with good friends on the water and hope the next trip will be more productive, but thats fishing and hunting. Thanks folks for a great day on the water and look forward to seeing you back again soon..

I had a great time with a great couple from the San Antonio area today. The weather started out a little windy and overcast, but not bad. Our first drift, and their fishing skills we managed to box 3 nice redfish and 2 speckled trout and a few undersized reds. But someone put lock jaw out, for the next couple of hours we didn't boat a fish. We made a couple of moves and finally got into the dink trout up to 14 7/8'', tough fishing, the wind was blowing 25 + mph and even with 2 drift socks it made it tough. The trout were hitting real light and then run at you, but we had a good time and they learned how to feel the bite and caught a lot of fish. The fish were scattered over a large area in 3' of water, we did manage a couple of keepers out there. We headed back to where we had started, but no success and moved to the next flat and found the water muddy from the wind but managed a couple of undersized and 1 more keeper red for the day. Folks thank for a great day on the water and look forward to having you back again.
